General Authority for Awqaf Issues New Principles of Endowment Governance
The General Authority for Awqaf has issued the principles of endowment governance document following a resolution by its board of directors, designed to enhance management efficiency, ensure long-term sustainability, and protect the rights of both donors and beneficiaries.
By providing a comprehensive guide rooted in justice, integrity, and transparency, the document empowers trustees to fulfill donor stipulations responsibly while maximizing the social and developmental impact of the endowment sector.
The framework is built upon seven key principles: donor stipulations and purpose, sustainability and development, the rights of beneficiaries, effectiveness of trusteeship, fair stakeholder dealings, enhanced accountability, and transparency through disclosure. Designed as a flexible and phased system, the document accounts for the varying institutional capacities of endowment entities.
The authority emphasized that these principles align with current Saudi regulations and are available for public access on their official website to foster greater confidence and compliance across the sector.
