Native Grass Blankets Desert Dunes, Enhances Vegetation Cover

The dunes southwest of Rafha Governorate are adorned with tufts of nasi, a perennial desert grass, creating a scene that breaks the stereotypical image of the sprawling desert while reflecting the richness of vegetation cover and biodiversity in Saudi Arabia's sandy environments.

 Located about 130 kilometers southwest of Rafha Governorate, Irq Al-Ashyakh is witnessing the widespread growth of nasi, a perennial summer grass belonging to the Poaceae family. The plant grows naturally in sandy soils and is highly adapted to harsh climatic conditions, making it one of the most important forage plants in desert ecosystems.

 The plant plays an important environmental role in supporting sustainable rangelands. It serves as a natural source of feed for livestock and helps improve soil characteristics and limit sand encroachment through its ability to spread and regenerate, thereby enhancing ecological balance and preserving vegetation cover in desert areas.

 The widespread presence of nasi across Irq Al-Ashyakh highlights the Kingdom's rich desert flora and natural environmental assets, reflecting ongoing efforts to conserve vegetation cover and promote environmental sustainability. The area also attracts nature enthusiasts, photographers, and excursionists, offering an environmental destination that combines scenic beauty with ecological significance.
