SAR Reports Strong Growth in Q1 2025 across Passenger, Freight Transport

Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) has announced its operating results for Q1 of 2025, reporting strong growth in both passenger and freight transport and highlighting its expanding role in the Kingdom’s transport and logistics sector.

SAR transported more than 3.3 million passengers across its networks, which include the East Train, the North Train, and the Haramain High-Speed Rail—marking a 24% increase compared to the same quarter last year. The number of scheduled transits also surpassed 10,000 trips.

SAR also transported over 7.4 million tons of minerals and various goods, an increase of 17% compared to the same period in 2024. This growth has helped reduce reliance on trucks, improve road safety, and lower carbon emissions.

SAR CEO Bashar AlMalik stated that Q1 saw unprecedented operational performance, including a record set by the Haramain High-Speed Train, which transported over 48,000 passengers in a single day in Ramadan. Total ridership during the holy month also exceeded 1.2 million passengers.

He noted that SAR is steadily advancing toward its strategic goals through operational expansion and the launch of high-quality projects, most notably the unveiling of the luxury 'Dream of the Desert' train designs, developed in partnership with Italian company Arsenale. The train will be the first of its kind within the luxury tourism category in the Middle East and North Africa.
