'Safe Heart Zone' at Grand Mosque Enables Rapid Heart Attack Treatment in Makkah

The Makkah Health Cluster established the “Safe Heart Zone” at the Grand Mosque, with full operation led by King Abdullah Medical City. The initiative aims to strengthen rapid response to cardiac emergencies and ensure immediate

 medical intervention. It operates within efforts to enhance healthcare services for Umrah performers and visitors to the holy sites, facilitating access to specialized care in line with the goals of the Health Sector Transformation Program under Saudi Vision

 2030. The project includes 10 cardiac intensive care beds and a specialized medical team of 30 qualified healthcare professionals. Interventional cardiology services are delivered through a mobile catheterization laboratory at Al-Haram Hospital. The facility

 also provides advanced mechanical support for critical cases, including life-saving devices such as ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) as well as interventional cardiology supplies such as cardiac stents and specialized medications. Approved clinical

 pathways are applied for post-catheterization care and patient referral. The initiative seeks to improve outcomes for heart attack patients by reducing treatment time and ensuring faster intervention, particularly during peak periods in Ramadan and the Hajj season. It also enhances integration within the regional healthcare

 network by receiving emergency cases transported by the Saudi Red Crescent Authority, as well as referrals from healthcare facilities within the Grand Mosque area and three nearby medical centers.
