AlUla Emerges as Leading Equestrian Tourism Destination in Saudi Arabia
AlUla Governorate has strengthened its position as one of the Kingdom's leading equestrian tourism destinations, leveraging its unique landscapes and thousands of years of cultural heritage to offer visitors an experience that combines horseback riding with exploration of archaeological sites, dramatic rock formations, and lush oases.
The Royal Commission for AlUla is developing integrated infrastructure to support equestrian tourism by creating dedicated horseback riding trails that extend through several natural and historical sites, alongside walking and cycling paths. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance quality of life, enrich the visitor experience, and provide sustainable ways to explore the destination.
The commission has also prioritized the regulation of equestrian tourism by issuing licenses for stables and experience providers, helping ensure professional services that meet strict regulatory standards and deliver safe, high-quality experiences.
AlUla hosts several of the Kingdom's premier equestrian championships, organized by the commission in cooperation with the Ministry of Sport, represented by the Saudi Equestrian and Polo Federation. The events attract hundreds of riders from within the Kingdom and abroad.
Equestrian tourism forms part of AlUla's growing sports and tourism ecosystem, which draws on the governorate's natural and cultural assets to offer experiences that combine traditional equestrian sports with world-class adventure activities, enriching the visitor experience and showcasing the diversity of tourism offerings available in the governorate.
