Shura Island Resorts Set LEED Platinum Milestone at The Red Sea
Red Sea Global announced that five resorts on Shura Island, part of The Red Sea destination, have received LEED Platinum certification under the LEED v4 BD+C: Hospitality rating system for the design and construction of new hospitality buildings. This is the highest level of certification within the global green building rating system.
This achievement raises the number of LEED Platinum-certified hotels and resorts at The Red Sea destination to 10, comprising 1,207 hotel keys across a certified built-up area of 236,405 square meters. With this milestone, Red Sea Global becomes the developer with the largest number of LEED Platinum-certified hotels and resorts worldwide. The destination is also preparing to open six additional resorts on Shura Island, all of which are in advanced stages of obtaining LEED certification this year.
LEED certification, awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is one of the world’s leading green building rating systems. It evaluates building performance according to several criteria, including energy and water efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and the use of low-impact materials, contributing to reduced emissions and enhanced long-term building sustainability.
General Manager of Four Seasons Resort and Residences Red Sea at Shura Island Kai Dieckmann said: “The first Four Seasons resort’s receipt of LEED Platinum certification reflects our commitment to delivering a hospitality experience that combines luxury and sustainability, while supporting the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030. This is aligned with Red Sea Global’s ‘for people and planet’ approach. Sustainability is a core element in the design, operations, and future vision of our resort."
The certified resorts include The Red Sea EDITION, InterContinental The Red Sea Resort, SLS The Red Sea, Four Seasons Resort and Residences Red Sea at Shura Island, and Miraval The Red Sea. These resorts have been designed according to the highest sustainability standards under the LEED system. They are powered entirely by renewable energy and incorporate highly energy-efficient engineering solutions, low-impact building materials, and advanced systems that enhance the environmental performance of buildings.
Shura Island is the vibrant heart of The Red Sea destination, home to a collection of international resorts developed through an integrated approach that balances environmental protection with world-class hospitality experiences. This comes as part of Red Sea Global’s vision to develop regenerative tourism destinations that create a positive impact on the environment, society, and the economy.
